Presidential Legislative Liaison Office (PLLO) chief Manuel Mamba accused Cagayan Gov. Alvaro Antonio of attempting to ambush him on election day.
Speaking to DZMM, Mamba said he saw Antonio at a waiting shed with an AK-47 when his four-vehicle convoy was passing by the municipal hall of Alcala.
“Pag lampas namin, may putok – pak, pak, pak, pak. Dumeretso naman kami. Yung pala yung isang sakay na namin may tama na, yung last na sasaksayan may tama sa side at sa likod,After we passed him, we heard shots –pak=pak[pak. We found out later that the last vehiche was hit at the side and back.)” he said.
He said he himself saw Antonio shoot . “Siya mismo. (He himself)We were only about 10 meters away. Ewan ko lasing yata. Parang lasing e. Nagtaka nga ako e. Akala ko mananakot lang siya(I don’t know. He seems drunk. I was puzzled. I thought he would just threaten us).”
Mamba said Antonio’s opponent is his brother, William.
“I think it was an ambush. It was done with impunity. Sabi ko nga baka lasing kasi lasenggero itong governor namin ( I said maybe this governor of ours is always drunk),” he said.
Antonio categorically denied that he was involved in the shooting of Mamba's convoy.
In an interview with Anthony Taberna and Gerry Baja of DZMM, he said,“Wala ako sa eksena na yan. (I was not in the scene.) I have people who will testify that I was at home,” he said.
He also said he has no AK-47 and he does not drink. “Members of media will attest that he does not drink because I’m on antibiotics.”
He said he has no reason to create trouble because he is winning and he won’t do anything to delay his proclamation.
